For over 4,000 years, the jujube has been a valued component of traditional Chinese health practices—a fruit with a long history and deep-rooted significance. As an adaptogenic plant, it embodies the wisdom of nature and holistic well-being. Grown in sustainable mixed-crop farming in Portugal, without pesticides or fertilizers, hand-picked, and gently dried.
This preserves the network of valuable plant compounds, flavonoids, saponins, vitamin C, B vitamins, as well as minerals and trace elements.
Our jujubes come from particularly unspoiled regions and are traditionally valued in many cultures. The fruits ripen in sunny high-altitude areas, which gives them their special aroma and natural sweetness.
Careful harvesting and gentle drying preserve the quality of these exceptional fruits. In Asian botany, jujubes have been considered an important dietary ingredient for centuries—valued for their taste and traditional uses.

Valuable plant-based ingredients, careful processing, and natural quality
Before they reach full maturity, these delicious jujube fruits resemble small pears, and when harvested, their appearance is reminiscent of dates. We grow them under optimal conditions in mixed cultivation in southern Portugal near the Monchique Mountains—in symbiosis with pomegranates, figs, almond, and olive trees.
Cultivation is strictly organic, without chemical additives. Once a year, smallholder families harvest the fruits by hand with great care and dry them gently. This preserves their natural properties as much as possible—as well as their valuable plant compounds.
As an expression of mindful processing and natural quality, our jujubes stand for a deep connection to natural cycles and traditional knowledge.
Chinese and Tibetan Nutritional Traditions
In Chinese and Tibetan nutritional traditions, jujubes—botanically known as Ziziphus jujuba—have been regarded as a valuable ingredient for thousands of years. They are valued there both for their taste and for their use in traditional practices.
In these traditions, they are attributed special significance in relation to inner balance and the role of nutrition in daily well-being. Jujubes are a component of many traditional recipes based on a holistic view of the body.
Jujube fruits are characterized by an exceptionally rich nutrient profile. They contain:
- High amounts of vitamin C (up to 550 mg/100 g)
- Polyphenols, flavonoids, and saponins, known as antioxidants
- Dietary fiber to support digestion
- Minerals such as potassium, iron, and phosphorus
- B vitamins to support energy metabolism
Traditionally, jujubes are also known as “breastberries.” Their natural flavor and pleasant texture make them a popular ingredient in many cuisines—for example, as a snack or in soups, sauces, and vegetable dishes.
Enjoy JUJUBEVERA® fruit strips on their own or as a delicious ingredient in your hot dishes.
