Our ingredient philosophy

The power of plants in their natural synergy

Every plant contains a complex spectrum of naturally occurring compounds. Within this naturally occurring composition of active ingredients, these compounds can complement, support, and balance one another. That is why we do not focus solely on an isolated active ingredient, but rather on its interaction with the plant’s other components.

Each formula is developed individually to meet its specific skincare goal. There is no standard base formula. In many skincare products, hand-peeled organic aloe vera juice serves as the active-ingredient-rich foundation. This is complemented by selected plant extracts, botanical and essential oils, as well as modern cosmetic active ingredients, when they effectively enhance the formula.

Formulas rich in plant ingredients also require reliable microbiological protection. For preservation, we rely on organic pentylene glycol derived from sugar beets. We deliberately avoid using alcohol or ethanol, parabens, citric acid, and phenoxyethanol as preservatives.

The heart of our formulations

Aloe Vera Organic Juice.

Aloe vera is the plant that marked the beginning of PHARMOS NATUR’s history. A personal experience with a fresh leaf changed Margot Esser-Greineder’s career path and provided the impetus for founding the company in 1986.

In many cosmetic formulations, water serves primarily as a neutral carrier. PHARMOS NATUR, on the other hand, uses a high proportion of hand-peeled organic aloe vera juice. It provides a rich, naturally occurring network of active ingredients and supplies the skin with moisture and nourishing plant components right from the base of the formulation.

The selected extracts, oils, and other active ingredients are incorporated into this plant-based matrix. The Aloe Vera BioJuice helps ensure their even distribution on the skin and promotes the formulation’s absorption. The base itself is thus an active component of the skincare product.

Our aloe vera comes from Yucatán and Campeche in Mexico. The leaves are harvested by hand and peeled one by one. During this process, the gel is carefully separated from the aloin-containing rind. We do not use concentrates, freeze-drying, or spray-drying.

Shea butter

Origin: Shea butter is extracted from the nuts of the African shea tree.

Cosmetic Profile: In addition to stearic acid and oleic acid, it contains a characteristic proportion of unsaponifiable components. It protects against moisture loss and softens rough skin.

In the Formulations: Shea butter strengthens the lipid phase of rich creams and balms and enhances their protective properties.

Sunflower

Origin: Sunflower oil is pressed from the ripe seeds of the sunflower.

Cosmetic Profile: Depending on the variety, it primarily contains linoleic or oleic acid, as well as natural vitamin E. It provides gentle care and helps maintain the skin barrier.

In the Formulations: Sunflower oil serves as a gentle skin care oil and as a carrier for fat-soluble plant extracts.

Walnut

Origin: Walnut oil is extracted by pressing the kernels.

Cosmetic Profile: It contains linoleic and oleic acids as well as natural tocopherols. This delicate oil spreads easily and leaves dry skin feeling supple.

In the Formulations: Walnut oil complements the protective blend of plant oils in the Tanning Oil and enhances its pleasant feel on the skin.

White mineral clay

Origin: White mineral clay, also known as kaolin, is a naturally occurring, exceptionally finely ground clay mineral.

Cosmetic Profile: Its mineral structure can absorb excess sebum and surface impurities. At the same time, it is milder than many more absorbent clays.

In the Formulations: White mineral clay helps gently clarify the skin, while aloe vera and plant extracts provide nourishment and hydration.

Meadowfoam

Origin: Meadowfoam seed oil is extracted from the seeds of Limnanthes alba.

Cosmetic Profile: Its long-chain fatty acids make it particularly resistant to oxidation. It forms a fine, smoothing protective film without feeling overly heavy.

In the Formulations: The oil enhances the smoothness of rich creams and helps retain moisture in the skin.

Hyaluronic Acid

Origin: Hyaluronic acid is a natural component of human connective tissue. For cosmetic formulations, it is produced biotechnologically and is typically used in the form of sodium hyaluronate.

Cosmetic Profile: Different molecular sizes bind moisture on the skin’s surface and within the upper layers of the skin. This helps the skin feel softer and smoother while giving it a visibly plumper appearance.

In the Formulation: Hyaluronic acid complements the natural moisture network of aloe vera and helps support long-lasting hydration.

Snow Mushroom

Origin: Snow Mushroom is the fruiting body of the fungus Tremella fuciformis. For cosmetic applications, it is used as a polysaccharide-rich extract.

Cosmetic Profile: Its branched polysaccharides can bind water and form a fine, moisture-retaining film on the skin.

In the Formulation: Snow Mushroom complements different forms of hyaluronic acid and the aloe vera base to create a multi-layered hydration complex.

Beeswax

Origin: Beeswax is a natural wax produced by honeybees and carefully purified for use in cosmetic formulations.

Cosmetic Profile: Its wax esters form a breathable protective film on the skin. This helps reduce moisture loss and protects dry, stressed skin from external environmental influences.

In the Formulation: Beeswax provides stability to balms and rich creams while supporting their long-lasting protective effect.

Roselle

Origin: Roselle is a species of hibiscus. Extracts from its intensely colored calyxes are used.

Cosmetic Profile: Anthocyanins, polyphenols, and natural fruit acids give it antioxidant and skin-refining properties.

Cosmetic Profile: Oleic and linoleic acids, as well as natural tocopherols, keep the skin supple and help maintain an intact lipid barrier.

In the Formulations: This delicate kernel oil complements regenerative creams and products for the sensitive eye area without leaving the skin feeling overly heavy.

What we use. What we avoid.

Quality is a matter of conscious choice.

What a product leaves out often says just as much as what it contains. Here is a transparent comparison.
